Mort & Brenda Schmidt

Morton T. Schmidt, Jr., District Governor 1992-1993

Mort was born in Battle Creek, Michigan.  He grew up and received his primary and secondary education in Exeter, New Hampshire.  He attended the University of New Hampshire, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and Alpha Epsilon Delta Society, receiving a BA in Microbiology with a minor in Animal Science, and later attended The Ohio State University, College of Veterinary Medicine, receiving his DVM degree cum laude.

 

He began his professional career in Portsmouth, NH and is now engaged in a multi doctor practice in Amesbury, MA.  He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Maine Veterinary Medical Association, New Hampshire Veterinary Medical Association, and Massachusetts Veterinary Association, and is the charter president of the Seacoast Veterinary Association.  He has served on the Humane Society Liaison Committee of New Hampshire.  He is also a member of Phi Beta honor Society of Veterinary Medicine.

 

Mort joined the Portsmouth Rotary Club in 1978.  He has served as Club Secretary for many years and was Club President in 1984-85.  He has chaired several fundraising projects and initiated the Portsmouth Rotary TVG Auction.  He has served on the District Nominating Committee, has been a District Zone Representative, and was District Secretary in 1989-90.  He has been a Club Secretary, training leader for both District 779 and 778 Assemblies, and has been involved with the New England Multi-District Presidents Elect Training Seminar since its inception in 1989.  He is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and Rotary Foundation Benefactor.

 

Mort has also been a director and vice-president of the New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. He is an incorporator of the Mark Wentworth Nursing Home.

 

Brenda also attend public school in Exeter, NH and received her BA in Elementary Education from the University of New Hampshire.  She is an accomplished Quilter.  She teaches quilting from her own studio and has published her own “Migrating Geese” design.  In 1990 Brenda was chairperson for the New England Quilters Guild annual meeting.  She is a Paul Harris Fellow and Rotary Foundation Benefactor as well.

 

Mort and Brenda live in Stratham, NH with their two children, Katie and Sam.
