Read Across America
Read Across America Day (Dr. Seuss' birthday) is an annual initiative on reading to children that was created by the National Education Association. Theodor Geisel was an American writer and illustrator well known for his popular children’s books under the pen name Dr. Seuss. The first Read Across America day was held on March 2, 1998.
How can we in District 7780 participate in the annual Read Across America Day?
In celebration of Dr. Seuss' birthday, District 7780 Rotarians are challenged to participate any time during Read Across America Week. Think of the impact if every Rotarian read a story to a classroom in their local school, preschool, or daycare! Many schools already celebrate this day/week in some way, so an offer from the local Rotary Club to read to students would be enthusiastically welcomed.
Just confirm your club's interest by contacting your local school, set up times to visit the classrooms, and you have a great local project to reinforce the fun and importance of reading. More than half of clubs in our district participated in recent Rotary years. Don't let your club miss out the opportunity to enrich the lives of children in our communities.
