Global Grants
Global Grants are the way in which Rotary clubs work together to "do good in the world" through The Rotary Foundation. Global Grants can take the form of:
- Sizeable humanitarian projects (starting at $30,000) typically (but not always) in developing nations
- Scholarships
- Vocational training teams, in which a group of professionals with specific skill sets travels to another country to perform a specific mission.
Global Grant terms and conditions are set by policy of The Rotary Foundation and although the District reviews the application before it is submitted, the grant award itself is subject to Rotary Foundation review and oversight in Evanston, IL.
The project must have a minimum budget of $30,000, with a minimum of $15,000 requested from The Rotary Foundation. The rest is typically a combination of club cash and District matching funds (DDF). In District 7780, it one club in our District is involved in the Grant, the District will match dollar for dollar up to $5000. If two or more DIstrict clubs are involved (and each club is contributing a minimum of $1000, the District will match dollar for dollar up to $10,000. This is true whether the Global Grant originate in our District or not. These matches are, of course, dependent on available DDF, and grant matches are made on a first come, first served basis.
There is no deadline for applying for Global Grants. Funding is made on a first-come, first-served basis as the grants are approved by The Rotary Foundation, beginning with the new Rotary year each July, and continuing as long as the funding lasts.
All Global Grants are a partnership between two Rotary Clubs; one in the District and country where the project will be implemented (Host Club), and one in the developed world (International club) So before you start your project, make sure you have a partner club.
