Maine Community Health Options (MCHO) is doing outreach work to inform people across Maine about the Affordable Care Act (and the individual mandate in 2014); the Health Insurance Marketplace (and opportunities for premium tax credits for those eligible); and Maine Community Health Options as the new nonprofit health insurance CO-OP (Consumer Operated and Oriented Plan) for Maine.

MCHO is a nonprofit organization that will provide affordable health insurance to Maine people and small businesses.  Enrollment for the new plan offerings begins October 1, 2013 for the coverage year beginning January 2014. Organized as a Consumer Operated and Oriented Plan (CO-OP), MCHO’s mission is to provide high-quality benefits that promote health and well-being.

MCHO is trying to ensure that Maine people have the necessary information and tools to make informed decisions about their health coverage.

It is reaching out across the state to various organizations as good places to get information out to the public through their regular meetings. It has been presenting at Rotaries, Artistic organizations, Career Centers, Community Action Agencies, Federally Qualified Health Centers and others venues.
