Rotary’s Short Term Exchange Program

Rotary's Short Term Exchange Program (STEP) is one of the least known Rotary programs but has the capacity for change and insight for student, families, and clubs.  STEP involves a 6-8 week family-to-family international experience and a fun club introduction to youth exchange without school involvement, long term commitment, or expense.

District 7780 high school students are matched with counterparts in their countries of choice.  The two families decide the dates of the exchange and which child travels first to the other's country.  The sponsoring club identifies a member who provides a background check and references (volunteer applications are handled by the District Youth Exchange Chair) as a resource.  The club includes the incoming student in any social or community service events happening during the 3-4 week visit. In return, they have two club speakers – one when the international visitor is here and one when the US student completes the exchange.
