Balance!

It isn’t easy! Whether in our work and home life, or in our clubs’ service, fundraising, and fellowship, we seek balance. I am reminded of this as I enjoy the company of my six grandchildren and their parents during this fabulous week of all family.

My email answers have been brief and my phone calls even shorter. My list of Rotary chores is growing longer and in the last week of July, I will be looking at all the tagged emails and the list that is growing. I will rebalance myself!

Often, our clubs need ‘rebalancing’ with planning activities for the year. Each club is unique - some fundraise once a year and spend the rest of the year giving away the funds. Other clubs find service projects that do not require funding and they have specific fundraisers when needed. Several of our clubs have a monthly social and some consider their service time all the socializing they need.

My point is to be conscious of your club's choices and direction. Find time to include all members in a discussion on these choices. If your Board of Directors plans your year, make sure that the entire club is on board with these decisions and on the direction of the club. I recommend the District Visioning Team if you need help in this alignment.

Many thanks to the clubs who have invited me to participate in meetings, outings, and service projects. I have raffled, greeted new members, and enjoyed the Sea Dogs, and packaged food. I plan to cook chicken livers in August.

Enjoy your summer visitors, traveling, or just plain relaxing!

Peace,

District Governor Claudia Frost

BUILDING RECOVERY-READY COMMUNITIES
By: Bob MacKenzie
Chief of Police, Town of Kennebunk

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

In 2021 more than 107,000 Americans, beloved family members, friends, co-workers, and community members died from a drug-related overdose or SUD (Substance Use Disorder). Overdose fatalities are climbing across the country in record numbers.  Maine and New Hampshire are not immune to these deaths and we are losing our loved ones, friends, and neighbors at a record pace. Maine, with 636 deaths, ranked 11th in the United States out of the 50 states.  New Hampshire, with 425 deaths in 2021 did better, but any death from an overdose is a tragedy. We need all hands on deck! As a Rotarian, you can help.

Eleven Clubs Awarded District Grants
for 2022-23 Rotary Year

By: Sarah MacGillivray
District 7780 Foundation Committee Secretary and Public Image Coordinator
Member, Bath Sunrise Rotary Club

Congratulations to the eleven Clubs in our District who applied for this year’s round of District Grants.  As always, we need to give a huge thank you to the members of our District Grant Review Committee, under the direction of Michele Varuolo Cole.  The Committee members work very hard to ensure that all applications are complete, meet all the criteria, and determine whether or not each of the programs suggested will make an impact in the community they serve.

This year the committee found that each of the eleven applications submitted to be very well done, and it was clear that all of the Clubs who submitted had done the training provided by our District Foundation Committee. The projects will have a beneficial impact on the populations they will serve.

News from the District Foundation Committee
By: Sarah MacGillivray
District 7780 Foundation Committee Secretary and Public Image Coordinator
Member, Bath Sunrise Rotary Club

Our District Foundation Committee had a busy first meeting last month, as you read in the above article sharing the news of the eleven funded District Grant applications.  Thanks to the generosity of donations made to OUR Rotary Foundation Annual Fund, the committee was able to make a few changes to the funds that will be available to Global Grant applications.

If Global Grant applications sound too daunting, just reach out to our District’s GG Coordinator, Carolyn Johnson.  She is more than happy to give you guidance and answer any questions you may have.  She explained to the Foundation Committee that due to a change reducing the amount of World Fund monies available, it would be beneficial to our District Clubs if more District Designated Funds (DDF) could be made available to D7780 clubs sponsoring Global Grants.

Greetings, Fellow Rotarians!

Welcome to a new Era for Rotary with our first female Rotary International President and surely not the last. I, too, look forward to an awesome new year as the District’s Annual Giving Chair and District 7780 Foundation Committee member. I will do my best to keep you up to date with the latest statistics regarding our District.  Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions you may have regarding your Club’s goals for this new Rotary year. I am eager to hear from you. I had the pleasure of attending the Kennebunk Portside Rotary meeting on the 2nd of August 2022 at 7:30 a.m. with our very own Brenda Cressey, past Rotary International Trustee Chair 2018-19. I am using this opportunity to learn how to best serve all of you. Thank you and I look forward to this 2022/23 Rotary year. Keep up your good works and be well.
