District Governor's Message

November is Foundation month, and there is certainly no need to struggle for content as I could fill a book.  I will focus in on our District as we have most certainly stepped up in a big way with the ShareForever Campaign. A huge shout out to Brenda & Dick Cressey for making a significant contribution, which has set our District on fire with an amazing campaign to raise Five Million Dollars in bequests and current gifts to Rotary’s endowment! Yes, five million dollars, ($5,000,000)!  My wife and I have agreed to jump on board!

Marty Helman Nominee for RI Director
 
Martha Peak Helman is the Zone 32 nominating committee’s selection to serve as Rotary International Director beginning July 1, 2026. A member of the Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club, she will be named Director nominee on December 1, provided no challenge to her nomination is received prior to that time.
 
Currently, Marty is a Rotary Foundation Trustee, with a term that runs until June 30, 2026.   She chairs Rotary’s Fund Development Committee and serves on the site selection committee for the new Peace Center in Asia. More details of Marty’s tenure with Rotary follow.

ShareForever 7780 Million Dollar Challenge Update

In the Rotary calendar, November is Foundation month, so it seemed like the perfect time to give an update on the ShareForever 7780 Million Dollar Challenge.  November is also the perfect time to give thanks and think of ways to make donations before the end of the year!
 
As you know, the Rotary clubs in District 7780, from Damariscotta to Fryeburg and Exeter to Portland, are stepping up in a historic way. To date, close to $3.8 million dollars have been raised in our ShareForever 7780 Million Dollar Challenge.  Every dollar raised will fuel projects in our communities and worldwide for generations to come. Today’s pledges aren’t just dollars—they are commitments to a future that makes a difference locally and globally.

Journey Magazine is Educating Communities in Partnership with District 7780

The kickoff presentation for Journey Magazine's "Educating Communities" initiative marked a significant partnership between District 7780 and the magazine. The goal of the presentation was to enhance recovery literacy by providing vital information about addiction and recovery, while also highlighting the importance of recovery capital. Members of the Kennebunk Rotary Club were actively engaged, asking insightful questions throughout the session. Niki Curtis, the Community Engagement Director, shared her personal journey, weaving her experiences into the presentation to illustrate the realities of recovery.

Rotoplast Trip Changes Lives, the Patients and Travelers

The Rotoplast trip to Faridabad, India was a life-changing event for the folks who made the voyage. Club members were able to connect with travelers via Zoom while there. District Foundation Committee Update

DISC Update

On October 12 about 25 Rotarians, Rotaractors and others participated in the latest International Café via Zoom.  The first session was on International Youth Exchange, of which there are two flavors:  year-long and summer.  Antonio Soriano Lujon from Spain described his year-long stay in Maine, sponsored by the Portland RC.  Then Remick Matty described his summer exchange to India, sponsored by the Kittery RC.  If your Club would like to participate in either type of Youth Exchange, contact Kathi Perkins of the Westbrook-Gorham RC at kperkins1@myfairpoint.net.

The committee is here to act as a DEI resource for all district clubs, leaders and individual Rotarians. We’re here to provide help and guidance with DEI related issues. We are NOT here to tell you what your club should do. We’ve created a DEI checklist for clubs to assess how they are meeting the needs of members and prospective members. We’re also compiling a list of DEI themed speakers for clubs.

Three Rotary Clubs Come Together for UNE Rotaract Dinner

On October 18th Rotarians from the Biddeford Saco, Saco Bay, and Saco Bay Sunset Rotary Clubs met with the University of New England (UNE) Rotaract Club to discuss the Rotaract goals for the 2024-2025 year. After cordial introductions, the UNE Rotaract Board members shared their enthusiasm for being part of Rotary and for the 23 people in attendance at the dinner. In addition they shared their club’s goals for 2024-25.
