Journey Magazine is Educating Communities in Partnership with District 7780
By: Niki Curtis, Community Engagement Director, Journey Magazine
The kickoff presentation for Journey Magazine's "Educating Communities" initiative marked a significant partnership between District 7780 and the magazine. The goal of the presentation was to enhance recovery literacy by providing vital information about addiction and recovery, while also highlighting the importance of recovery capital. Members of the Kennebunk Rotary Club were actively engaged, asking insightful questions throughout the session. Niki Curtis, the Community Engagement Director, shared her personal journey, weaving her experiences into the presentation to illustrate the realities of recovery.
The next presentation was before the York Rotary Club where the response was similar. Photos are primarily from the York presentation.
Both presentations also included practical and applicable steps that Rotarians could take to support recovery in their communities. Attendees were given five magazines to distribute to businesses they own or frequent, amplifying awareness in their networks. Additionally, they were offered access to free Narcan, empowering them to play a direct role in addressing addiction-related emergencies. Overall, the events left participants inspired and equipped to make a meaningful impact on recovery efforts in their communities.
