Rotary District 7780 and Friends Forever Present a Uganda Celebration!

Where: 3s Artspace, 319 Vaughan Street, Portsmouth NH 03801

When: Labor Day Monday, September 7, 2015

3:00 PM until 5:00 PM

http://rotary7780.org/Event/f7bc2b7a-5bd7-406f-ae5a-ad216a622261

Who: all Rotary members from district 7780 and all community members are cordially invited!

This will be the culmination and celebration of an 18-day intensive education program, through the partnership of Rotary International, Friends Forever and Youth Passionate Organization (YPO), a Ugandan non-governmental agency, along with the Kajjansi Rotary Club of Kampala, Uganda.

Ten Ugandan young leaders, two team leaders, and one Kajjansi Rotarian are receiving training in leadership, peace and conflict resolution in Seacoast New Hampshire and Southern Maine.  This Labor Day Celebration event, part of a Rotary International Global Grant, came together as a result of a relationship between YPO, Friends Forever, and Rotary.

YPO uses music and dance as an integral part of their culture, their common bond. By performing their different tribal dances, young troubled youth are drawn to an environment where learning music and dance can change their lives. The partnership strengthened when a team from Rotary District 7780 took part in a music-based cultural exchange with some of their members two years ago, and on Labor Day these two teams will come together for a joint music and education performance.

The program for this celebration in Portsmouth will include:

Meet and greet our visitors, introductory remarks from Rotary, Friends Forever and YPO leadership.

YPO and the Rotary Music Cultural Exchange team will perform together.

YPO members will give a history and cultural understanding of the different areas of Uganda, share traditional tribal music and dances from the different areas of Uganda, and talk about their hopes for Africa in the future.

Online registration is closed, but there should be ample room for walk-ins and you can pay at the door.   This is a family-friendly event.  Tickets are $10 per person, or only $15 for the entire family.
