Council on Legislation
The District Nominating Committee selected Lawrence Furbish of the Rotary Club of Sanford-Springvale, Maine, to be our Council on Legislation representative. Lawrence brings to the Council a 30-year career as a legislative researcher for the Connecticut General Assembly not only in research, but also in analyzing and summarizing both state and national constitutions, statutes, regulations, and court cases. Lawrence is a past District Governor and currently the District Finance Chair, and District Polio Plus Chair. Marty Helman has been selected as the alternate in the event Lawrence will be unable to serve.

What is the Council on Legislation?
Every three years, Rotarians from around the Rotary world meet at the Council on Legislation to review and vote on proposed changes to the legislation that governs Rotary. They consider enactments, which change Rotary’s governing documents, and position statements by the RI Board. The representative selected in 2016 will participate in 2017, 2018, and 2019 Councils on Resolutions and 2019 Council on Legislation.

Finance Committee
The Nominating Committee selected Warren Spencer of the Rotary Club of South Berwick-Eliot for a three-year term on the District’s Finance Committee commencing July 1, 2017. Warren has been a dedicated Rotarian and has been involved with Rotary for most of his life. He recently served as president of the South Berwick-Eliot club, was part of the group that chartered the club, and was among the most senior members when there was only one club in South Berwick.  He is very involved in the community and takes all his commitments seriously. In addition to his vast background in finance and banking and experience as financial officer for a number of non-profits, he is a hard worker and a fine Rotarian.
