Snow and cold did not discourage a group of District 7780 Rotarians from 8 clubs who came together to load a 40-foot shipping container full of mobility devices on Saturday, February 1. This container for Crutches4Africa is headed to South Africa and was picked up in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

This District has now collected, loaded, and shipped 14 containers full of both used and new mobility devices to countries in need in Africa and beyond. Crutches, walkers, rollators, canes, braces, medical boots & shoes, knee walkers, wheelchairs, and more. These devices can have a profound impact on the daily lives of people with a variety of conditions, including those with congenital conditions, those who have been injured, the elderly, and polio survivors.

Thanks to all Rotarians, family, and friends who collect items all year long, as well as to those who came to help on Saturday. We also thank so many in our local communities for continuing to support this project by donating items no longer needed.

The following clubs were involved in the loading of the container

  • Saco Bay
  • Portsmouth
  • Portland
  • South Portland-Cape Elizabeth
  • Dover
  • Oxford Hills
  • Westbrook Gorham
  • Saco Bay Sunset
Thanks so much.
