Shine Cambodia Orphanage Kitchen Project

The Yarmouth District Grant was to transform the kitchen at the Shine Cambodia School and after-school program into a safer, more functional space for students and staff. The project included replacing the existing wooden walls with durable brick and concrete, installing brick-and-tile countertops along all sides, and adding a lockable glass window to secure the area. A new large sink was professionally plumbed to a septic system, and a refrigerator ensures safe food storage.
Ceiling fans will improve ventilation, and a second sink is planned for the classroom area so children can wash their dishes. The facility’s electrical system was rewired to increase amperage, allowing the safe use of essential appliances such as a rice cooker, refrigerator, freezer, kettle, and fans. In addition, an upgraded food-storage area made from Plaster/Smart Board was constructed alongside the kitchen.
