Saco Bay Fishing Derby

The 3rd Annual Alec Cyr Fishing Tournament will be held the weekend of July 12-13, 2014. The monies raised from this event benefit the Saco Bay Back Pack Food Program and a variety of charities in the Saco, Biddeford and Old Orchard Beach communities. Club members and our local Interact Clubs are currently selling raffle tickets with several large prizes that include a Yamaha Outboard Motor valued at $2,000, a Sea Kayak and a $500 VISA gift card. Raffle tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25.

Kicking off the event is the "Captain's Party" which will be held at Aquaboggan Water park, Route 1 in Saco, on Friday July 11th at 5:30 p.m. This event includes a delicious all-you-can eat and drink meal catered by Famous Dave's BBQ. Those entered in the fishing tournament get a free ticket to this event, but the general public can also buy tickets as well for $25. During this event we will be having a live auction with many prizes and a wellness booth promoting the benefits of early detection for colon cancer.
The actual Fishing Tournament will be held on Saturday, July 12th and Sunday, July 13th, with a winner being crowned on Sunday afternoon.
Alec Cyr was a true Maine outdoorsman with a passion for fishing. He would wake up at the crack of dawn and fish until the sun went down. He loved more than anything to be out on his boat with his wife, family, friends and dog. In 2011, colon cancer took his life and he left behind his 5-month old son, his wife and many family and friends. We are now honoring Alec and his love of fishing through the Saco Bay Striper Tournament. It will be an incredible weekend celebrating an incredible man.
