Be A Grant Recipient
District Grant Proposals Due June 1, 2021
By: Michele Cole, District Grant Coordinator
Fifteen (15) Clubs were awarded District grants in 2020-21. When was the last time your Club received one? There are requirements, but it's not that difficult. We'd be happy to talk to your Club to encourage applying.
Some of the grants from last year included:
- Dover, working together with the City, provided bike racks as part of an effort to meet the community’s demographic, young people who are increasingly traveling around town by bicycle;
- Portland, finding workarounds to COVID travel restrictions, arranged for much-needed water filters and solar lights for a village in the Dominican Republic;
- Yarmouth built a wetland boardwalk and wildlife viewing platform in its Town’s newly created Riverfront Woods Preserve;
- Brunswick Coastal, along with Bowdoin Colleges students and the Boy Scouts, renovated bedrooms and the community room at the Tedford Adult Shelter;
- Kennebunk Portside teamed with Educate Maine for the 2,020 Maine Books Challenge supporting students, teachers and booksellers.
Does your Club have a project idea like any of those above that involves its members and is meaningful to the community it’s intended to benefit? If yes, then apply for a District Grant. It’s not that hard – complete the club qualifications, take the Grants Management Seminar, and follow the application process as described on the District 7780 website by June 1st. District Grants increase the capacity of projects and award amounts are usually in the $1,000 - $4,000.00 range.
District Grant projects are encouraged to be new and lead to sustainability while being hands-on or providing an essential item to the project. Completing a project assisted with District Grant funds highlights Rotarians involvement so that others may be encouraged to support Rotary and recognize our role in the local and global community.
