September 18 is International Ocean Cleanup Day. The Portland Sunrise Club organized an Ocean cleanup in 2019, where they also partnered with companies to use as their company service day. This was a very successful event and can serve as a model for other clubs.With Rotary’s new seventh area of focus, Environment, it would be great if every club could organize a cleanup during the same week. I would like to expand this to lakes or rivers if that makes more sense for a club. Portland Sunrise club would love to share their learnings, their publicity templates and signup sheets. We would like each club to choose a water body for cleanup, and organize the event for Sept 17, 18, 24 or 25. Please send me an email with your club’s plans for this project. Please also advise if you are interested in the district organizing of this cleanup.
